Directions

1.
Homemade is better!
Start by preparing the chicken. In a large bowl, combine the chicken strips with minced garlic, lemon juice, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Toss everything together until the chicken is evenly coated in the marinade. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours. This step is important to infuse the chicken with the flavors of the marinade and make it more tender.
Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Once the grill is hot, add the chicken strips in a single layer. Grill the chicken for 5-7 minutes per side, or until it's cooked through and slightly charred. Remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it into thin strips.

2.
Assemble the gyros
While the chicken is cooking, prepare the vegetables for the gyros. Chop the lettuce, slice the tomatoes, and thinly slice the red onion. Set everything aside in separate bowls until you're ready to assemble the gyros.
To assemble the gyros, warm up the pita breads in the microwave or on the grill for a few seconds. Place a layer of chopped lettuce on each pita, followed by sliced tomatoes and red onions. Top everything off with the grilled chicken strips. Serve the gyros immediately with a generous dollop of homemade tzatziki sauce on top.
