The BEST Burger Bowl Recipe

A burger bowl is actually a salad. But the salad is so hearty and filling that you will love every bite! Crispy baked potatoes, tender turkey and perfect Big Mac sauce, a combination that no one can resist.

This salad/bowl is a great way to get all the flavors of a classic burger on a plate, but in a slightly lighter version. Apart from the bun, you serve everything you usually have in a hamburger on the plate. And just like the burger, you can customize this salad to your own taste buds.

That’s why salads like this are a fun and easy dinner that the whole family will love! The base of the salad is always fresh lettuce, juicy tomatoes, but you can also add avocado or red onion. You then put juicy minced meat on top, which takes only a few minutes to prepare. And you complete the whole dish with pickled cucumber and grated cheese.

And the best part is the homemade dressing, for which you’ll need a few ingredients that you’ve probably already had at home for a long time.

  • Ground meat. This one is A MUST! Of course, you can also use ground beef. But I usually reach for ground turkey or chicken. The salad is not so heavy and tastes great.
  • Cheese. My favorite is classic cheddar, without which a proper burger cannot do. But you can’t go wrong with plain edamame either.
  • Tomatoes. A hamburger is not complete without chopped tomatoes! But if you don’t like tomatoes, replace them with red pepper.
  • Dill Pickles. Cucumbers must not be missing in a hamburger! And if you take the pickle out of your cheeseburger, don’t do it in this case. Cucumbers add another dimension to the salad.
  • Lettuce. We’re talking about a salad and a lighter version of a hamburger. So salad is one of the key ingredients. You can cut it into thin strips, very fine, or just roughly tear it.
  • Homemade sauce. The only thing that differentiates fast food burgers from homemade burgers is the sauce they serve them with. I prepared mine from mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup and cucumber glaze. But you can adapt it according to your own tastes. You can definitely add BBQ sauce, dried garlic or onion to it.

Directions

Crispy Potatoes!
First, cut the potatoes into smaller pieces and soak them in cold water for 30 minutes (you can skip this step, but if you take the time to do it, the potatoes will be nicely crispy). Then drain the potatoes and dry thoroughly with a paper towel.
Preheat the oven to 200°C. Drizzle the potatoes lightly with olive oil (approx. 1 tablespoon), add 1 teaspoon of sweet pepper, oregano and salt. Mix thoroughly and spread them evenly on a baking sheet lined with baking paper so that they ideally do not overlap. Bake for about 30 minutes, but it depends on how big you cut the potato pieces. Alternatively, leave them in the oven a little longer.

Cook the Meat
Meanwhile, prepare the meat. Finely chop the onion and fry it in a deep pan in 1 tablespoon of oil so that it turns slightly translucent. Then add the minced meat to the pan, lightly salt, pepper and season with dried garlic and a teaspoon of sweet pepper.
Fry the meat until golden, during cooking you can break it up a little using a cooker so that you have the meat in smaller pieces. Also prepare the sauce. Mix all the sauce ingredients together in a bowl and season with salt and pepper as needed. Chop the iceberg lettuce and tomatoes.

Assemble the Salad
Once the potatoes are baked, prepare 4 larger serving bowls. Place a handful of lettuce and chopped tomato in each bowl. Add baked potatoes, cooked meat and cover with sauce. If you want, you can sprinkle the salad with grated cheddar before serving.
